Adult Only Breaks - Do you get any time out?
« on: April 16, 2014, 08:35:23 PM »
Out of curiosity - do you get any time 'off' from parenting?  Do you ever / would you ever go on an Adults Ony event? If so, what kind of event or break appeals?

I get two weeks a year away from parenting --- while O is on holiday with his mum. To be honest I can't do anything during that time because I miss him too much ( hopefully this will get better) ..... we skype every night to say goodnight, so I need to be around for that ------ and I want to be here in case I am needed !!! Silly, I know.    Maybe as he gets older I will get better at separation.

I do fancy going on city breaks --- would love to go to Pompeii .... but don't relish the idea of doing this alone.

As a hypothetical situation, I often like the sound of it.  However, when it comes to reality I almost never do it.  When I do have a totally child-free weekend it usually is full of bookings for my business or playing catch up.  I'm pretty bad at spending money on me when I could spend it on something for E or for us to do together.  I have one suck plan for Autumn, but that is a friend's hen weekend and has been a long time in planning.

I get almost every other weekend off but all of your Adult Only weekends are either a) too far away (driving home with a hangover?  no thanks) or b) on my weekend on. Other than that, cheesy 80's nights look awesome ;)

I only get time off if it's for a specific reason then I can usually get my mom involved for a night (2 max)

I would choose a spa break if I was going to do something.

I would consider an adult only do.  80's cheesy appeals to me!

I get 2 weekends a year.  I would have more but I have to pay for weekend childcare  :(  It's so worth it though!

I didn't think 80s cheesy would be my thing but it's not what I expected and it doesn't feel cheesy when we're there.  We must just blend in with all the other cheesiness.  ;D

Deborah 43 You need to get your weekends synchronised with the rest of us.  ;)

A few of us do a 4 hour journey to get to Butlins, from different directions too.

Completely child-free weekend?  a whole weekend? :)

It does happen occasionally ... maybe twice last year.

But ... the children get older every day ... they begin to need less supervision

... they start to go away on their own (cubs/scouts etc.)

... and every once in a blue-moon the elder children can be coerced into overnight child-care duty.

80s cheese is ok ... so is 70s, or even 60s ... not sure I'd be persuaded to travel right across the country though ... there's still the Sunday evening parenting and the getting ready for school the next day thing.

Besides, I've seen many of you out when you are being supervised by your young ones ... unsupervised is beginning to sound a little scary ;)

Yes I'm one of the lucky ones and could get a 'weekend off' from childcare if I wanted to.  I'd love to have an adults only SWOK weekend away.  A spa weekend or a Butlins weekend would do for me (as long as it doesn't  involve a tent ;D )

I might be able to start joining in with the adult only stuff my little one spent a whole week with daddy at easter and it went well, so how about those lovely wood cabins in the forest with hot tubs on the balcony or.... more camping always up for that! ××

We're putting a walking trip up shortly (we've had a fair bit of nagging!) to test the water and then are looking to follow this with other events.  It's difficult to get dates that suit all but the adults only events will be open to all , and hopefully if we spread events around a little then hopefully anyone who's interested will be able to find something that suits.

All ideas for events welcome by the way - we do love recommendations!

Did anything happen with this? Ive not been on the forum for a while. I'd love some weekends away when I've not got my son. Even if just for one night. City breaks, walking, sightseeing, meals out. I only have one (semi)single friend locally so have quite a few lonely weekends. I'd have been interested in the Butlins weekend but I'm away with work that weekend.

I still can not go anywhere alone. Usually I wait for my friends or go with a colleague at work.
