Holidays for singles
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:51:32 AM »
Hi

I'm booked onto a SWK holiday with my son but my ex husband also takes my son away a couple of times a year meaning I have some quite long periods on my own. I don't feel up to going away completely on my own and don't have any friends to go away with so I've been looking at singles holidays. Has anyone been on one? I've looked a lot at one particular company but on the photos the people seem to be more over 50 - I'm 40. Not sure if we're allowed to mention companies on the forum so if anyone has any experiences of these type of companies could you message me please   :)
Not looking for a man on holiday - just a trip away somewhere new in the company of others.

Thanks

I have a similar issue -- the last time I was single ( last century) singles holidays were overly expensive.. I haven't yet checked the current situation. But my plan was to simply go on city breaks, as a singleton, and explore the many cities I have always wanted to see.

My fear with "organised" singles holidays is that they will be full of others seeking a partner, rather than just like minded people after simple company.

Yes, that's a worry too. I just want company, don't mind a mix of ages, but don't want to be the youngest by far. Have just found a couple more companies. One seems to avoid August, which is when I would want, but the other looks more promising - but expensive.

I've done a single holday with Explore or Exodus (can't remember which one) they do small group adventure holidays. It was fab! there is generally 1 - 3 singles on the group anyway (about 25) or some departures are all singles. Its not a place to meet partners at all!! Its all about the adventure!!!
ps - i'd go with you!!!

I've been going on SWK holidays both at home and abroad for the last ~ 4 years.

A recent boyfriend got the hump because as far as he was concerned while I was seeing him I should only have been going on holidays with him (even though he couldn't afford to go anywhere at all unless I paid and he was unprepared to try and put money away each month so that we could plan a trip away together.) He referred to SWK holidays as my 'singles' holidays. Anyway, long story but it all came to a head last autumn and I left him.

Now, after being accused of going on 'singles' holidays for the past year and actually not having had a kiddy free holiday for ~ 6 years I have decided that I bloomin well am going to go on a kiddy free holiday next year!

Someone recommended Justyou holidays to me so I am going to have a look and see what they have. I have looked an Exodus but I can't do anything too treky at the moment as I've injured my knee.

I'd be up for hooking up with anyone though!

Exodus sounds a bit too active for me. I don't want to sit on a beach all week but I prefer sightseeing rather than treking/cycling.

I'd go with you too!  I've not posted my story but it's similar to yours (Prince charming with 3 kids and then all went horribly wrong) so I think we'd have lots to talk about!!

I've been looking at JustYou this afternoon and they do look like the best option.

It'd be great organising something through this forum but I guess finding a time when we can all go together might be difficult!

Before starting SWK I used to spend my weekends on various Spice events - it's a social / adventure / holiday/bit of everything type of club that has great holidays and events that suit all interests.  There was never a dating feel to the events and the age range was from around 35 upwards depending on the trip. I never tried their holidays but many who had rated them well.  Worth considering!

In a few weeks my 16 year old, GCSE stressy, full of teen hormones daughter is going to be staying with me while her Dad goes away for over 3 weeks - so I am definitely gonna be due some kiddy free/holiday/me time this year!

I have been on Solo's holidays and also Friendship Travel, I can recommend both.

I liked Friendship Travel the most as there was a real mix of ages.  Solos have age ranges as well as open.
