single parent with 17 year old
« on: September 16, 2010, 07:02:48 PM »
Hi, am i allowed to come on any of the trips on my own i.e. winter wonderland etc if my daughter doesn't want to come?
I think as she is doing her own thing now she probably won't want to come but I need to get out and make some
new friends.

I'm in exactly the same boat. My son no longer wants to go on SWK trips, but I don't want to hog (or pay for) a room just for myself, though I have very much enjoyed (most of) the SWK trips I have been on.

How funny, I'm a reg childminder so have my CRB check done.

Has anyone attended any of these outings without children? (apart from adult only nights).

Hiya Carolyn
Im Rachel and I'm in West Yorkshire
I have a nearly 15yo daughter and the same as you - She has a wonderful social life yet I have none!
But I go along to the local meets alone but tbh I never feel alone.
Are you booking the adults only trip  - great opportunity to meet everyone all at once! And the photos from the last adults only trip looked fantastic

Funnily enough I'm CRB checked as well, but after 18 years I don't think I want to borrow any more children.

Perhaps we should have a room at SWK events for parents with absent children.

I was thinking the same about the new year trip and whether it's possible to go alone- my kids are usually with their dad at new year, my friends are always doing 'family' stuff so new year can be horrible! I e-mailed chrissie and she said that although it's ok to go alone, the new year (canterbury) trip is quite small and it's unlikely there will be others there without kids. Also there are no adult only do's over Christmas/New Year but this could possibly be looked at for the future.

I am also child free every other weekend when they go to their dad so would be keen to do some adult only local meets or something if anyone else was interested - I've only just joined and am keen to meet new friends in the same situation  :D

There is another thread on here somewhere about adult only Vs single WITH kids!  I am def up for both.....

Jo - will let you know when the next meet happens at this end of the country.  You are always welcome to whizz down for a coffee (or something stronger)  when you are child free.

I am child free this christmas and dreading it :(

So if anyone has any plans to escape the festive season, count me in.......

A friend of mine has a house in France - I wonder if it will be available over Christmas?

Sounds good Karen! Especially the 'something stronger'!!
I normally have my kids Christmas day but not Christmas eve and then they go back to their dad for new year. Not yet organised this year but the kids would like to do the same and their dad is normally happy with those arrangements.

If you've not gone off to France with John maybe we could all do something!? I need to get Chrismas sorted - I don't usually worry cos don't have to plan being home alone :( !! Maybe this year will be different  ;D
