SWK on ITV with Myleen Klass tonight!
« on: May 31, 2016, 11:28:42 PM »
Hope you all got to see the documentary. Although it was called 'single mums on benefits' it covered so much more (including single dads!) and showed single parents in a positive light! Well done ITV and Myleene!  ;D

It was great, although the title was really misleading. Hopefully though it pulled in the poverty-porn watchers and changed their perspective on us single parents.
Onwards and upwards.

Watched it on catch up - made me cry.  Loving the Chrissie (and the glimpse of Sarah) didn't recognise anyone else 8)

Joined up after seeing it on that documentary... Had no idea there was any forums like this out there. I was on mums net years ago but felt it was more geared towards the nuclear family mums... Such a find shame it's not used more x

I saw bits of it and I just want to say a massive thank you for all the support I received when I joined the site back in whenever it was  ;D

My one and only camping trip in Wicksteed was a brilliant event and one day I would like to do it again. I met so many great people and it was also great to meet a few other single dads in my situation with full custody of their children.

Just for the record, my son has not seen his mum now in over 14 months and I worry about what effect it is having on his little 7 year old brain.......

Hello stranger! Aw poor little man 7 already!! - we never stop worrying about them but if he's doing ok then it's probably affecting you more than him. You're giving him a secure and stable family and that's what matters

Hi everyone

I joined up after seeing the program 'Single mum's on benefits' with Myleen Klass. which i knew was on but didn't wanted to watch as i thought it was going to be another program which would shed us in a bad light, but my mum by chance caught the program when it was on TV and quickly texted me to tell me to record it. I found the program so positive which made me feel so much better about being a single mum, and very hopeful about mine and my daughters future.

Really pleased that you found swk and that you found the program helped. The support of other single parents is fantastic x

Hello MM, how the heck are you? Long time no speak.....

The sad part is, he doesn't ask about his mum. Ah well, he's doing just fine. He's doing well in school and he is now part of the local Beavers group which is great as he mingles with kids his own age for an hour every Wednesday but more importantly, I get a break for an hour!!  ;D

Sounds like he's doing great! My lad doesn't ask about his dad, seems I worry about it far far more than him. If I raise his dad just so he knows it's ok to talk about him, he's genuinely surprised and more ' why are you talking about him' than anything. When there isn't a bond, and no memories it's like suddenly raising the topic of a random stranger to him. I think I get upset and worry more than he does.  Beavers is great - he'll go on a camp too so you'll have a whole weekend  ;D x

He's actually going out with Beavers all day this Saturday to a local theme park then having a 'sleepover' in a local school with the group so it's 24 hours kid-free time for me!!  ;D (Where's the vodka)

It is a bit disconcerting when they don't talk about the 'absent' parent but at the end of the day it is them that are missing out as my lad doesn't seem to be to bothered about it. I have had him in my full time care for five years now and I could predict that in five years, he has probably stayed at his mums for overnight contact less than 20 times.

By the way MM, where you in the documentary as well? I saw a few faces I recognised.

Oh dear! I'll look out for the news headlines from Saturday .....liverpool chap found in drunken heap  ;D

Yes, I am lurking in the background but I deliberately kept out of the camera's way  - saving my five minutes of fame for when Vin Diesel calls me  ;D ::)

Hello mate

Just wait till they have you helping out ... first just one evening when they need an extra adult ... then a Saturday thing ... before you know it you'll be neck deep and rushing around for childcare so you can attend planning meetings :)

In any event, have fun :)

I thought I saw you MM on the 'VT' (I believe they call it that in media terms) and Vin who?????

And WT4 I've already been approached by Beavers to assist - I left rather sharpish  ;D

I'm not sure about 'adult conversation' it can get a bit crazy in here!  ;D but you're amongst good company. Feel free to post away about anything and everything ....

Thanks Monkeys mom as i really need to find support from other single parents and to hear that their are other people like me and hopefully find long time friends.

The friendships formed last longer than most of the relationships that brought us here! Many of the early SWKers are in relationships, married , even with babies...but they stay in touch and meet up with friends made on through SWK and still talk fondly of the days they enjoyed with SWK.

There are a lot of new single parents who have just found us so please join in and enjoy being amongst single parents who understand the challenges (and joys) of single parenting x

Multi-tasking? Does talking and watching TV at the same time classify as multi-tasking??
