Camping Essentials
« on: June 02, 2008, 10:58:27 PM »
There are quite a few camping novices coming along on this trip, so this is my own little list of Things To Bring. I've broken it down into "Essentials", "Nice to Haves", and "If There's Room":

Essentials

Tent
TENT PEGS
Ground sheet (unless this is sewn in)
Sleeping bags - make sure these are warm or bring some extra blankets to go on top
Air beds or camping mats - don't try and lie on the ground, it's very cold and very, very uncomfortable (we don't want you grumpy the next day!)
Thick socks and warm jim jams
Cutlery - plastic will do
Plates - ditto
Cups - ditto (though it's best to bring a mug for hot drinks)
Torch or lantern
Tea bags / coffee / sugar and some milk
Cereals for breakfast
Something for the barbecue on Friday night (we can buy Saturday's beforehand)
Toiletries
Waterproof coats (just in case)
BEER / WINE !!!!
Spare clothes - unless you want to be a "real" camper and wear the same lot all weekend  ;D
WARM clothes
Towels in case the kids go into the sea
Kids bathing costumes

Nice To Haves
Chairs or mat to sit on (Tesco and Asda sell camping chairs cheap)
Table
Cooking ring  & gas bottles (we'll have a few between us)
Barbecue - disposable or otherwise
Water container (we'll have a few between us)
Washing up bowl / Fairy liquid / tea towel

If There's Room
Children  ;D
Games - bats / balls/ buckets/ spades etc
Music - "gin gan gooley" anyone ?
Colouring books / pens for when the kids want to play in the tent

I think that's fairly comprehensive, feel free to add as we go along.

Silky x

p.s. Don't forget my mobile number in case you get caught up anywhere or can't find us. I've emailed this to you all.

The nearest A&E is in Penrhyndeudreath, (about 15 minutes) its a minor unit, but can deal with stitches and the like, I think there maybe one in Barmouth, but not sure.

Its very silly  and yet very amusing and one that Trevor's daughter taught us last week. You all have to be asked a series of questions and can only answer "sausages". If you laugh you lose ( and have to have a shot of voddie/tequilla, altough not int the kids version). I  dp have other word games but not ones that I can verbalise on this forum!

Apparently there is a " Withnail and I"  drinking game wherin you watch the film and every time they have drink you have to also have one. Not ideal due to no DVD player at camp , woops, sorry I mean not a good idea in terms of our health.

We could also play Truth/Dare/Drink

What about Drink Twister? nt sure how it would work but it may be fun

Or maybe even Question Time style drinking game  for the more cerebral and discerning camper, we all have to pretend to be politicians and answer questions pertaining to the day's politics in the style of Charles Kennedy ( easy when drunk ), Hazel Blears (just be very annoying)

Have a feeling that I MAY have made that one up!

Hello you nursey folks
I'm also a qualified nurse, done a lot of ICU nursing and emergency surgery and now work in sexual health. Am hoping that none of my skills are required atShell.
Nursing in the fields we would be like Galdys Emmanuelle community nurse in open all hours!
Must remember to get insect repellant, am hoping it will be warm which means lots of horridy insecty things.

Well hopefully my skills wont be needed but between us i think we could set up a mobile a+e if needed  ;D

If i bring the camping stove thingy when the insects are out at night it should repel them for us, cos they dont like smoke. hehehe good plan  ;D  that will save on the insect repellant stuff.

But the fingers crossed, non of these will be needed at all.

Trevor( Mophead) can be Arkwright  - he will be so pleased if he reads this. I dont know any of the other blokes so I guess we could ask Richard if he would kindly do us the honour of being Granville ( again, he will also be pleased!)
Perhaps we could glam it up a bit and be Holby City?

I have been let down on the stove I was going to borrow and now cannot afford to buy one as I had to fork out £140 on my car today. leaving me just enough money for petrol etc.

I have brought a couple of disposable bbq's though  ;D

Hi Caroline,
if you're a keen camper you'll fit in well around here - there'll be lots of camping trips planned for next year.

You need your own equipment for the camps but as long as you have the basics you can usually get by, everyone is always willing to help out.
