Leave a gap!
« on: April 19, 2012, 05:46:36 PM »
I know we get groans when we ask campers to leave plenty of space between guy ropes  (do you really want to listen to your neighbours snore & trump through the night??)  but perhaps this video will help explain why.... the tent has gone in less than a minute and would easily have taken others with it if close enough.

That Alan is a right little smartarse - the STAR of the show :)

Back when the forestry commission took camp site management seriously they had a rule that your camp pitch must be a least 6m from any/every other pitch
Two things we give our children: roots & wings

Wow it certainly makes you think!!
If you obey all the rules you miss out on all the fun!!!
Wouldn't it be nice if the world was flat then we could push off people we didn't like!

When I worked a summer in France years ago a tent had gone up in flames just before I arrived.
The 2 staff that lived in that tent got out OK but lost everything they owned. We were all told to keep something sharp by our beds in case we had to get out fast in the night, Its never occurred to me to do the same now I do 'normal' camping but I think I might start.

That would be quite traumatic to see your tent and everything in it go up in flames like that.  It's amazing how the tent to the right of the picture didn't go up as well or at least melt from the heat.
He's right though, it's a crazy place to cook.....
