Hello :)
I'm new too and went on my first camp a couple of days ago. Despite the rain I had a lovely time so I am booking for Wicksteed too. I'm quite a shy person initially and if I'm going back it shows how unscary it all is. Which day are you planning on going? I'm undecided as to whether travel on the Friday or Saturday, but if I'm around I'll help you and there's no need to fear asking for help, in fact people will ask if you need help.

As thank you, I'm shy until I get to know people. I'm going Saturday as I work nights and can't get Friday off. I'm thinking of stopping till Tuesday morning as I don't have to be at work until Tuesday night x

I have just booked and will be there Friday (it's my bday so I thought I'd celebrate in a tent). So I will be there before you so there's at least one pair of helping hands. My tent is so easy I might only be able to hold poles though!!  ;D

You will get an email just before we go with instructions and last weekend we could park with our tents so I assume the same at Wicksteed. There will be someone there to welcome you and point you in the right direction. It will all be good :) I was going to travel on the Saturday but thought if I did I wouldn't be able to have a birthday drink the night before. I should make it for about 3 o'clock and settled by teatime. I may stay until Tuesday but I can book that later on.

I didn't take a cool box but will next time. I have been told Tesco is close by so I won't worry too much. Depends what your little one(s) like(s). I took pain au chocolat for breakfast, fruit and crisps and picnic type food. I only used my stove for hot water partly because it rained so much. I might take a bbq this time and use my little stove more too. I am going on another trip before Wicksteed so I have a chance to learn a little more. I will be more adventurous this time lol  :)

Tesco is about a five minute drive away, I will take food for the first day and then do a Tesco run the next day after breakfast. Their are barrier gates at the main entrance so make sure that you get a key card from one of the coordinators before you go out or you will be charged for parking.

As it will be the end of August it may get cold at night so it is best to take plenty of bedding both to keep the cold out from the ground and on top of you, also get ready for bed while it is still light and then put some clothes on over the top.

If you are going to do a lot of camping, have room in the car then I and a few others would recommend the Coleman extreme coolbox, although they are not cheap they are very good.

You can park with your tent, just be careful not to block anyone in as most of us will need to go out at some point.

You will get all the details a couple of weeks before you go. It's brilliant for the little ones, make sure you take plenty of pictures.

Hi,
there are always lots and lots of newbies at Wicksteed - it's just a shame it's the last camp of the year as they then have to wait a whole 9 months until the season starts again :-(   That said, it's a great way to end the summer holidays though :-)

There are also always a lot of novice campers on the trip, and that's part of the fun of it - there's nothing breaks the ice quite so much as trying to work out how your new tent goes up, and there's bound to be a number of people happy to help.

Silky x

Wow! I've only just seen this site and I'm glad that I won't be the only newbie at wicksteed.  I've just come across it just now and will be looking back over it for the next few days looking to book once I've got an idea on what I need so I can look around to see where I can them from.  Anyhow, hi from another newbie ha :)

Hello

You definitely won't be alone .. there are usually several newcomers on every camp.

Nobody remains a newcomer for long :)

6 man sounds perfect LucyandLeyla :) Me and my 3 yr old have a two bedroomed, 6 person tent, find that one is just right for a double airbed (we still share) and then the other does storage for other bits. Also means we can go with friends and share the pitch cost sometimes. However Wicksteed we shall either be in a 2 or 4 man dome tent, with a tarp and windbreak to make more useable outdoor space. We do like to mix it up a bit :) Plus the 6 man is just to bulky to bring on the train :)

Hello Helen,
Just thought I'd drop a line to see how you are now that we are getting closer to the trip? Are you all sorted now? :)
