There's another family who live in Switzerland who've just booked - they're travelling from Geneva but we'll all meet up in Helsinki before flying on to Ruka.

I'm coordinating this one again (sorry guys!), it's such a magical place to spend Christmas I'm already looking forward to it.

Funnily enough we had a Swiss family last time too - perhaps we're coming up high in the search engines there?

No, not only Swiss, but in keeping with the impeccable time management of your host country, you're the first off the block. We tend to get a lot of last minute bookings for overseas holidays (even though the early booking discounts have gone by then and we've usually put the prices up in line with rising flight prices), I much prefer to have something in the calendar I can count down to.

Only 9 months to go... :)

Hello  :)

Myself and my 5yo son have booked for Lapland 2014.  Is anyone else going from the UK (or anywhere else for that matter)?

Also, for others that have been before, any tips on what to take?  I know outer clothing for the cold weather is included but I'm still wondering whether or not to buy my own bits, such as thermals for little man, snow boots etc.

Any feedback would be gratefully received  :)

Last year it was quite warm (around -5 to 0C ) but the year before it was really cold apparently (down to -40C).
The hotel is quite warm, and the snow gear provided was great. I would suggest thermals though, or leggings/tights and long sleeved tight top, especially for the transfers to and from the airport. I wouldn't bother too much with snow boots, just what you wear for the snow in the UK, because you will only be outside for as long as you are warm enough, and it shouldn't be slushy (we were warmer because the North Americans stole all the cold)
p.s. Best holiday EVER!
Father Christmas is a really lovely, down to earth elf.

Pack lots of tissues

It gets very emotional but in a good way - especially the day with Santa - still got the warm fuzzy feeling

Like Ms Wormwood says - just take layers for under provided snow gear

You might want a couple of smart tops for the hotel meals like xmas eve but inside the hotel is very warm

dont forget your swimming costumes and have a great time

We went a couple of years ago and it remains our best holiday ever.  Although i refer to it as a "once in a lifetime trip" i would actually consider going again one year.

My daughter got too cold at one point - her feet - when we were on the reindeer trip and the guy took us to an inside fire where we took her boots off.  I had put her about five pairs of socks on and he explained that fewer pairs and loser is what one should do to allow the air to circulate.  Maybe everyone in the world knew that except me!!

Have a great time - You definitely will!!
